A Look to the Past

As I write this, the CEF site has been operating for 2 years and 4 weeks. Over two years and this site still exists. That's quite an accomplishment. Sure, our enthusiasm has kind of gone downhill since then, but the fact remains that I have been head of this site for over 2 years. While I don't talk about it as much as I used to, many of my online friends forgot that I was the webmaster of this site. It's still kind of gratifying that I've made a local impact on the Internet in the world of Star Fox.

In fact, I remember that the site I looked up to the most was Greg Gant's "Fox's Crew." He had so much technology at his disposal, as I'm sure was evident since he made a few StarFox movies. In fact, he was the one who made the CEF QuickTime movie.

But all in all his site was awesome! It's kinda weird, but "Fox's Crew" was Greg's first site, and the CEF was MY first site also.

All this looking back doesn't mean I'm going to shut down the CEF site for all eternity, but nor will I update it either.

I am going to keep the site up, making this my last update to the CEF. It's apparent people still somewhat enjoy this site, but I simply cannot update any more. My job and college life demand too much of my time to keep up with this site.

However, before I say goodbye to this site, I would like to remember when we all said hello to the CEF for the first time.

How did the CEF start? Officially, it was first posted as an idea at www.nintendo.com's message boards. In fact, back then, my nickname was FrankFox! People were arguing left and right about who had the best score and such, and there was one in particular that just caught my attention. Marioviper, my current second in command of the site, was challenging me. I was thinking of accepting, but then the idea hit me to join forces with him. He accepted, and the Cornerian Elite Force was born. That was December 12, 1997. The next day, I signed up for an account at Tripod, and started the prototype page for the CEF.

I was inspired to create a logo, which is now famous to most Star Fox fans and posted it on the page. Meanwhile, the search started for two other members to share the CEF with. It was Mario's idea that since Star Fox had 4 members in the game, the CEF should have one also. We found IceStryke, who went under a different name at that time, on the message board, and I met LoomChild in Nintendo.com's chat room. We now had the four members, but we got off to a rather shaky start.

The Internet was new to me, and I was just learning about this and that, and so it made the site look weak. Some people however, wanted to join. It was hard each time to say "Sorry, we only have four members." However, I decided to make people honorary members, and that seemed to work well.

A while later, we lost contact with Loom and Mario, and I didn't know what to do. I actually feared the CEF was falling apart! However, Ice gave me the idea to promote a few honorary members to actual members, so I put up a little announcement on the site that we were looking for new members. The response was outstanding. I couldn't believe that people were wanting to join something that I had created, something that was still so young...

Mario came back to us, he had computer problems, but Loom was nowhere to be found. He came back for a while, only to disappear again. A net-friend of mine, Jennie Feline (that was the last name she was known by - she wins the award for most name changes ;)), was the new fourth member of the CEF, and the runner-up, Fana McCloud, was chosen as the leader of the "Honorary" Members. Fana chose SevereCrash as her second in command, and the CEF started to thrive completely again! It was amazing.

But for reasons to which I'm still unsure of, IceStryke resigned. No explanation, just an email saying, "I hereby resign from the CEF. [...] Please do not send hate mail." There was nothing else. Ice, if you're reading this, where are you, buddy? I'm still baffled! Fana at that time was promoted to a full member, SevereCrash rose up in the Honorary Member chain, and chose Lollipopper as his 2nd in command, who also left about a year ago. Cat Lawdhaus from the chat rooms became the new 2nd, and from there that pretty much describes what we have today, give or take a few details.

Lollipopper did give us the ranking system while he was still here, but the "Top Six" are myself, Mario, Jennie, Fana, Severe, and Cat.

I think all parties involved will understand why I will no longer update the site. As I bring this message to a close on January 10, 2000, the count on the site's hits is 9832. Almost 10,000 hits in 2 years - I think that's pretty good for something that was intended to only be a small site.

I would like to end this reminiscence by saying that I have no regrets. I do not at all consider my time and effort spent on the CEF to be a waste. It was a rewarding experience while it lasted, and I'm glad to have been a part of it. I can only hope that each of you feel the same way. Although I'm not leaving the Internet, it almost feels like such. And that is only because this site is special to me, like I said, it's my first site. I wish you all the best, and I hope to see you all around.

January 18, 2000: I just discovered that we have accomplished over 10,000 hits. Whoever the lucky 10,000th viewer was, congratulations.

This is not the only thing I came here to say, however. I want to leave with whereabouts of anyone who's been a top member of the CEF, just as a nice rememberence thing. Great job to all of you, even if you're not on this list:
